In House Training for COMeT’s Staff, “Internalization of Lifelong Learning”

8 Mei 2025 – An internal staff training session for COMeT was held on May 6, 2025, and May 8, 2025. COMeT is one of the strategic units under the Institute of Bioscience that focuses on rodent laboratory animal research services. All participants were staff members of the COMeT unit.

The objective of this internal training was to strengthen the culture of continuous learning among staff, in line with the principle of lifelong learning, which is becoming increasingly important in an era of rapid technological change and evolving work demands. This training also aligns with the growing complexity of research applications involving rodent laboratory animals.

Additionally, this internal training aimed to raise awareness about the importance of continuous self-development, providing staff with the opportunity to discover their own potential and explore new areas. It also supports Universiti Putra Malaysia’s mission toward continuous excellence through services that go beyond expectations.

During the training, participants were exposed to the latest procedures in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act 2015, under the ethical code for the use of research animals (MyCode). This training received approval from the Universiti Putra Malaysia Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Reference Number: UPM/IACUC/AUP-T012/2025.

On the first day, all participants attended lectures and hands-on sessions using non-living materials. This served as a refresher for experienced staff who had previously learned the techniques and sparked interest among new staff in gaining further knowledge. The lectures and practical training covered techniques such as simple interrupted suture pattern and simple continuous suture pattern.

On the second day, participants practiced using live animals to apply the knowledge gained from the non-living materials session. Participants demonstrated strong interest and commitment in completing the assigned tasks.

It is hoped that through this internal training, staff will become more competitive and better prepared to face new challenges. Furthermore, the training aims to cultivate a learning community within the organization that will enhance efficiency and productivity through personal empowerment.
