29 January 2026 – The Natural Medicines and Products Research Laboratory (NaturMeds), Institute of Bioscience (IBS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), successfully organized NATalk Series 4, featuring Prof. Dr. Doralyn Dalisay, Founding Director of the Center for Chemical Biology and Biotechnology, University of San Agustin, Iloilo City, Philippines, and a DOST Balik Scientist, as the invited speaker. The seminar, titled “Emerging Applications of MALDI Imaging Mass Spectrometry and Marine Actinomycete Mining in Natural Products Discovery,” was held on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Seminar Room, NaturMeds A, IBS, UPM.
The event aimed to showcase recent advancements in MALDI Imaging Mass Spectrometry (IMS) and the exploration of marine sediment-derived actinobacteria for novel bioactive compounds. During the session, Prof. Dr. Dalisay shared how her research uncovered the spatial distribution of bioactive metabolites in plant and mammalian tissues and explained how marine actinomycetes were mined for potential antibiotics, anticancer agents, and antivirals. The seminar brought together students, researchers, and academics who actively participated in the discussion. The event provided an engaging platform for knowledge exchange and strengthened research collaboration in natural products discovery and biomedical sciences.
