22 January 2026 – A collaborative discussion session was held between the IDRP-Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) Biota Technology Research Group, led by Prof. Foo Hoi Ling, and the management team of Bactolife, a start-up company from Denmark. The discussion took place from 3.00 to 5.00 p.m. at the Bilik Kesidang Utama, Institute of Bioscience, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The meeting was chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Chia Suet Lin, Head of the UPM–MAKNA Cancer Research Laboratory. The session commenced with an introduction to the Institute of Bioscience, UPM, highlighting the institute’s background, areas of research expertise, laboratory facilities, and key research focus areas. The session was also attended by nine researchers from the LAB Research Group, who actively participated in the discussion.

The primary objective of the discussion was to exchange views and obtain expert input on the scientific and clinical direction of products being developed by Bactolife. The Bactolife team sought expert insights on clinical positioning, evidence expectations, and validation pathways that align with Malaysian regulatory standards and requirements. The discussion also covered the need for preclinical and clinical studies, as well as potential research approaches to support efficacy claims of LAB–based products.

The visit by the Bactolife delegation also aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the research experience and capabilities of the Institute of Bioscience, UPM, and to explore potential avenues for future scientific or educational collaboration. Overall, the session was conducted in a constructive and interactive atmosphere and opened opportunities for strategic collaboration that could be mutually beneficial to both parties.
