7 January 2025 - The Occupational Safety and Health Committee (OSHC) of the Institute of Bioscience (IBS), in collaboration with the Institutional Biosafety and Biosecurity Committee of Universiti Putra Malaysia (IBBC UPM), organised a workshop on biorisk management in research and laboratory work. The workshop was officiated by the Director of IBS, Prof. Dr. Zunita Zakaria, who also serves as the Chairperson of IBBC UPM. The workshop was designed for first- and second-year postgraduate students as well as laboratory staff at the Institute of Bioscience. A total of 37 participants attended, benefiting from the expertise of seven specially invited speakers who delivered content based on the biorisk management curriculum. Over the course of two days, 11 modules were covered. Participants were also introduced to the Putra Massive Open Online Course (PutraMOOC) platform, where they could register and access workshop and training slides online. To evaluate the effectiveness of the training, participants completed an initial (pre-assessment) evaluation before the workshop and a final (post-assessment) evaluation after its conclusion. These assessments helped measure the impact of the workshop on participants’ understanding and application of biorisk management principles.
