8 July 2025 – The UPM-MCC Microbial Culture Collection (UPM-MCC) successfully conducted a training session titled Training on Basic Microbiology Technique, which was attended by 12 participants from various public and private universities, research institutions, and private organisations.
Prof. Dr. Zunita Zakaria, Director of the Institute of Bioscience, delivered the welcoming remarks, officiated the program, and presented a lecture entitled Introduction to Microorganisms. The second lecture session was delivered by Ms. Musliyana Mansor, titled "Introduction to the Microbiology Laboratory and Basic Aseptic Techniques.
The laboratory session focused on essential foundational knowledge, including the importance of aseptic techniques, various bacterial subculture handling methods, serial dilution of bacterial cells, and the preparation and observation of Gram staining under a light microscope.
This training is hoped to enhance participants' understanding of basic microbiology concepts and strengthen the practical skills required for safe and effective handling of microorganisms in the laboratory.
