The development of new technologies and the widespread and accurate dissemination of agronomic techniques not only helps increase durian production but also increases the quality of its fruits.
Senior Lecturer from the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Dr Mohd Firdaus Ismail said, the quality of durian in Malaysia is among the best in the world and is increasingly known abroad.
"That is why the demand for Malaysian durian has been increasing in the last 10 years."
"It is aided by strong (durian) branding and is reliable."
"This is the result of the government's efforts as well as the marketing activities of durian entrepreneurs to market the fruit king to the international market," he said.
He said that was one of the factors for the soaring price of durian in the local market.
"In addition, supply and demand factors also influence the increase in durian prices this year as well as other agricultural commodities."
