27 & 28 May 2025, Serdang – A total of 30 participants consisting of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), and the Penang Botanical Garden attended a course titled Medicinal Plants: Identification, Application and Care Methods 2025.
The two-day course began with a theoretical session held in the Tongkat Ali Seminar Room. Participants were given an in-depth explanation of the types of medicinal plants, their importance in traditional medicine, as well as basic plant identification techniques.
On the second day, the course moved on to a practical session held at the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve, Puchong. Here, participants were given the opportunity to practice identifying medicinal plants directly and how to apply their use in the medical field.
"The purpose of this course is to improve the knowledge and skills of participants in identifying medicinal plants found around us, as well as providing guidance in their care. We hope that this course can help participants in their efforts to preserve medicinal plants for future generations," said one of the speakers of this course, Dr. Khairil Mahmud.
With participation from various stakeholders such as DBKL, MBSA, and the Penang Botanical Garden, this course is hoped to have a positive impact in efforts to preserve natural treasures and harness the potential of medicinal plants for the good of society.
The organizers hope that courses like this can be continued in the future to promote awareness of the importance of medicinal plants in traditional and modern medicine.
