19 June 2025 – The Aquatic Animal Health and Therapeutics Laboratory (AquaHealth), Institute of Bioscience, Universiti Putra Malaysia, in collaboration with Tiong trove Family Farm, has organized a fish health management program with local fish farmers at Tiong Trove Family farm in Sungkai, Perak.
This program was attended by aquaculture farmers from Sungkai, Perak. The speakers involved were Professor Dr. Mohammad Noor Amal Azmai, Professor Dr. Ina Salwany Md Yasin, Dr. Nur Diyana Mohamad Tahir, Dr. Norhariani Mohd Noor, and ChM. Muhammad Farhan Nazarudin from AquaHealth. The topics discussed cover key aspects of water quality management, disease epidemiology, aquatic animal health management, and disease control in aquaculture. A discussion and Q&A session with the farmers were also held at the end of the programme. The farmers also had the opportunity to visit hatchery to observe application of fish farming systems in the field.
The program aims to enhance knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of aquatic animal health as well as disseminating the latest scientific research findings to farmers. Through this programme, researchers were able to assist and gain a better understanding of the issues encountered by fish farmers. Additionally, the implementation of this program helps strengthen collaborative relationships between university, industry, and the community, in line with efforts to advance the development of the national aquaculture sector to a higher level.
