16 August 2024 - The Biodiversity Unit organized the Go Green Program and Zone Assessment in the Conservatory Park of Institute of Bioscience (IBS), with a total of 69 staff participating in this activity. Based on the concept of planting within designated zones, the Go Green Program supports the university's environmental sustainability agenda in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This initiative aims to cultivate a sense of environmental awareness among the staff, making them more attuned to issues related to environmental preservation.
Guided by Universiti Putra Malaysia’s Green Policy, one of the objectives of the Go Green IBS Program is to foster awareness and provide education to IBS members on the importance of environmental protection through tree planting. The program also seeks to build a spirit of cooperation and strengthen bonds among the institute’s community while promoting the conservation of biodiversity and reducing the negative impact of greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to extreme climate change.
In addition, a zone evaluation was conducted based on the tree planting activities carried out in 2023. The judges included Dr. Firdaus Ismail, a lecturer from the Faculty of Agriculture, and Ts. Dr. Roziya Ibrahim, a lecturer from the Faculty of Design and Architecture. The zones evaluated in the competition included the Pitcher Plant Zone, the Fern Zone, the Yam Zone, the Aquatic Plant Zone, the Ginger Zone, and the Orchid Zone. This year, the Yam Zone won first place, while the Aquatic Plant Zone secured second place. Congratulations to the winning zones!
