11 July 2023 - The Biodiversity Unit of Institute of Bioscience had participated in an exhibition held in conjunction with the “Herbs for Health and Healing” seminar. This exhibition showcased a range of products, including herbal soaps, bath products, and easily cultivable medicinal plants, all of which can be utilized by the community for healing purposes. The primary purpose of this exhibition was to highlight the potential development of the herbal industry in Malaysia. The seminar was officiated by Datuk Dr. Nurfariza Ngah, Deputy Director General of Health (Research and Support) from Malaysia Ministry of Health. One of the key aims of our participation in this exhibition was to raise public awareness about the therapeutic benefits of indigenous herbs found in Malaysia and their potential in the treatment of various ailments. The exhibition provides a platform for interaction between stakeholders in the herbal industry. This collaborative engagement plays a crucial role in assisting the government and relevant agencies in crafting and executing policies geared towards nurturing the growth of the herbal sector in Malaysia. Despite the widespread use of modern medicine in healthcare, there is a growing recognition of the therapeutic value of traditional herbs in disease management. Malaysia's lush tropical rainforests offer a rich diversity of medicinal plants, and the production of herbal products for medicinal purposes has now become an integral part of our nation's development agenda
