21-22 March 2023 - The Biodiversity Unit (UBD), Institute of Bioscience (IBS) has successfully organized the Course on the Medicinal Plants: Identification, Application and Care Methods 2023. The course was inaugurated by the Director of IBS, Y.Bhg. Prof. Dr. Daud Ahmad Israf Ali and attended by 24 participants from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), BOH Plantation Sdn. Bhd., Freshwater Research Institute (GLAMI) and a public participant. The appointed speakers for this course were Prof. Dr. Latifah Saiful Yazan (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM), Dr. Khairil Mahmud (Faculty of Agriculture and Coordinator of UBD, UPM), Dr. Shamsul Khamis (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia) and Mr. Tajuddin Abdul Manap (an UPM retiree who has vast knowledge in the field of medicinal plants).

The main objective of this course was to disseminate knowledge and techniques on the identification, traditional medicinal uses, planting and care of the common medicinal plants to the participants. In addition, this workshop was also aimed to create awareness and interest among participants on the potential of medicinal plants in the medicinal industry. The organizer had received many positive feedbacks on this course from the participants.
