Dr Yasmin is a virologist, and her research area presently is focusing on emerging and re-emerging zoonotic viruses, chicken viruses and wildlife viruses mainly involving standard, applied molecular biotechnology. Two of her main projects emphasize in West Nile Virus (WNV), a zoonotic mosquito borne disease, and establishment of immortalized chicken dendritic cells (chDCs) lines in response to avian viruses. The WNV project is a project with three main phases (Phase 1- screening; Phase 2- characterisation; Phase 3- Application) which currently in phase 2 and a collaborative project with Cornell University, USA and University of Montpellier, France with five master students and one PhD student (one international student). Meanwhile, the chDCs project currently has one international PhD student with collaboration with Edinburgh University and Liverpool University. She is also a Registered Biosafety Professional under Malaysian Biosafety and Biosecurity Association and a Certified Biosafety Professional under International Federation of Biosafety Association.
