Dr Farina Mustaffa Kamal’s primary research interest focuses on T cell immune response and host-pathogen interaction of veterinary-importance infectious diseases. Her current research projects are looking at the extent of transmission of canine distemper virus (CDV) into Malayan tiger population and Covid19 infection in cats. She is currently a member of the International Society for Companion Animal Infectious Diseases and Editor-in-Chief for Jurnal Veterinar Malaysia. Dr. Farina Mustaffa Kamal obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2007 and PhD in Immunology from University of California at Davis (UC Davis), USA. Her passion is always on coronavirus-related research, but she is also exploring the area of host-pathogen interaction of other infectious diseases as well as feline zoonotic diseases that are prevalent in Malaysia. She has been recently awarded a grant by the National Conservation Trust Fund under Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources to investigate the spill over of canine distemper virus (CDV) into Malayan tiger population.
