Medicinal Plants Course: Identification, Application and Care Methods 2024

5-6 March 2024 - The Biodiversity Unit (UBD) of the Institute of Bioscience (IBS) successfully organized the Medicinal Plants Course: Identification, Application, and Care Methods 2024. The inauguration of this course was graced by the Deputy Director of IBS, Associate Prof. Dr. Ina Salwany Md Yasin. The course drew the participation of 19 individuals, including staff from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Syarikat Cempaka Lanskap Sdn Bhd, Darul Syifa' Bangi, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) lecturers, and postgraduate students.

Several esteemed speakers were appointed by the Biodiversity Unit for this event. Notably, Associate Prof. Dr. Noor Baity Saidi from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, UPM, and Dr. Khairil Mahmud from the Faculty of Agriculture, acting as the Coordinator of UBD, along with UPM retiree Mr. Tajuddin Abdul Manap, who boasts expertise in the field of medicinal plants, shared their wealth of knowledge and provided guidance throughout the course. The venues for this enlightening event were IBS and Sultan Idris Shah Forestry Education Center (SISFEC).

The primary objective of the course was to acquaint participants with the traditional uses of medicinal plants commonly found in the region, while also equipping them with the skills needed for planting and nurturing these valuable botanical resources. Additionally, the course aimed to foster awareness, interest, and potential within the medical industry for the utilization of medicinal plants. UBD, as the organizer, received commendable feedback from each of the course participants, indicating the success and value of the program.
