SERDANG, Jan 14 – The Seminar on Evolvement of PCR Technology: End Point PCR, real-time PCR and digital PCR was held in the Bilik Seminar Tongkat Ali Emas, Institute of Bioscience (IBS), Universiti Putra Malaysia. Organized by the Laboratory of Marine Biotechnology, IBS in collaboration with QIAGEN Biotechnology Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., the seminar was chaired by Mrs. Norfarrah Mohamed Alipiah and presented by Dr. Khor Yee Min, the Application Specialist from QIAGEN.

This seminar was designed to give exposure to the theory and critical factor of PCR, real-time PCR and digital PCR and has benefited 67 participants who attended the seminar. The topics highlighted were the invention of the PCR techniques in 1985 by Kary Mullis and how it helps molecular biologist to exponentially amplify copies of biological material, the essential attribute of every known life form, and also how PCR has been very useful to analyze human DNA mutations, polymorphism, gene expression, pathogen detection and many more. In addition to the main program, in-house training on PCR was conducted in the Laboratory of Marine Biotechnology, IBS. - UPM
