Workshop on The Care & Use of Rodents in Research

With the growing concerns for the ethical use of  animals in research, many countries have made it mandatory for all researchers to be proficient in the proper management and handling of laboratory animals, before obtaining the ethical approval for their animal studies.

On the 2nd and 3rd of September 2020, the Comparative Medicine and Technology Unit  (COMeT) has jointly organized the Workshop on The Care & Use of Rodents in Research with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), UPM and Prima Nexus Sdn. Bhd. The participants of this workshop were consisted of researchers and postgraduate students who are working closely with laboratory animals, particularly rodents. As per mentioned in the IACUC UPM policy:

  1. Proper measures must be taken to ensure that all animals used in research, research training, teaching, and biological testing activities are appropriately cared for and maintained in accordance to the international standards.

  2. All research, research training, teaching, and biological testing activities must obtain the approval of IACUC before commencement of the said activities.

  3. All personnel undertaking activities related to animal activities must be adequately trained and that the training be endorsed by the IACUC.
