"Kibar Jalur Gemilang" Competition, held in conjunction with "Semarak Merdeka UPM 2023," took place at the Institute of Bioscience

16 August 2023 - Institute of Bioscience (IBS), in collaboration with the IBS Welfare and Social Club (KESIB), had participated in the "Kibar Jalur Gemilang" Competition as part of the “Semarak Merdeka UPM” event, organised by University’s Art and Cultural Centre (PKKSSAAS). The theme for this occasion was 'Semarak Merdeka Madani@IBS.' This vibrant event saw the active involvement of 41 dedicated staff members from IBS, all working together to ensure its success. IBS made thorough preparations for the competition, including the decoration of Jalur Gemilang (the Malaysian flag), creating Jalur Gemilang-themed art from recycled materials, organising a Jalur Gemilang Photography Competition, promoting environmental awareness with the Go Green IBS initiative, and decorating the reading corner "Read@IBS."

The assessment session for IBS took place on 16 August 2023. On this significant day, the panel of judges, led by Mr. Husalshah Rizal Hussian, Director of PKKSSAAS, was warmly welcomed with traditional Malay customs, including 'bunga rampai' (a fragrant flower arrangement) and 'bunga manggar' (a ceremonial palm arrangement). Additionally, they were treated to a rendition of the patriotic song "Tanggal 31 Ogos" by Mr. Meor Shafaras Meor Sapelin.

The Director of IBS, Prof. Dr. Daud Ahmad Israf Ali, and other members of the management team extended their warm greetings to the judges. Prof. Dr. Daud Ahmad Israf Ali provided a brief introduction, followed by a video presentation showcasing previous Independence Day celebrations at IBS. The judges were then invited to inaugurate the opening of the Jalur Gemilang made from recycled materials and were served a Jalur Gemilang-themed cake.

As a token of appreciation, the judges received 'bunga rampai' and traditional snacks, including 'kuih lapis' and 'kuih cara berlauk,' both in the Jalur Gemilang theme colors. The committee members took the opportunity to capture photos with the Jalur Gemilang decorations after the assessment was completed, marking the successful participation of IBS in the competition.
