Education and work history

Amir Syahir completed his Ph.D. in 2010 at Tokyo Institute of Technology, where he was awarded the Kamata Izumi award for best Ph.D. thesis. There, he was trained as a biochemist and bioengineer with a more specific expertise in the field of biosensor. In 2011, he worked as a lecturer for Japanese universities preparation program at MARA Higher Skill College in Beranang before moving to Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2012 as a senior lecturer. From August 2019, he was promoted to associate professor at UPM. My primary research area is the integration of Nano x Bio science and technology. He has awarded 10 research grants worth of RM 1.2 M (total) as project leader and helped on other 8 grants worth of another RM 1.7 M as a co-researcher. I authored (and co-authored) 35 scientific articles, and 3 book chapters. The total number of his scientific paper peer-reviews so far is 157, which are; 44 for Biosensors and Bioelectronics (Q1, If = 11), 56 for Sensors and Actuators B (Q1, IF = 7), 31 for Talanta (Q1, IF = 6), and 26 for other journals. In 2017, he was awarded an Outstanding Contribution In Reviewing award by the Elsevier. He is also an evaluator panel for Malaysian Board of Technologists (MBOT) for professional technologist qualification, and for academic program accreditation under the Technology and Technical Accreditation Council (TTAC). As well as a panel for Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) for grant evaluation.
