Cancer Stem Cell Biology

The Stem Cell Stem Cell Biology Program aims to connect basic and translational research focusing on the unique biological processes shared by stem cells and malignant cells. Cancer stem cells are a small population of cells in a tumour that have been identified to drive tumour growth and metastasis through self-renewal. Therefore, the identification and characterization of the cancer stem cells are carried out to identify the process towards removing cancer cells specifically from their source. In addition, new discoveries in this area have the potential to reduce the incidence of recurrent cancer cases.
