9 April 2025 – A delegation from Prima Nexus Sdn Bhd recently conducted a visit to the Comparative Medicine and Technology Unit (COMeT), located at the Institute of Bioscience (IBS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The visit involved 15 participants, comprising six staff members from Prima Nexus, one senior lecturer from Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), and eight internship students from various higher education instituition.
The primary objective of the visit was to gain a closer insight into the research operations and breeding of laboratory mice and rats at COMeT’s facility. The visit was proposed by Dr. Lee Le Jie, the Research Project Manager at Prima Nexus, with the aim of exposing the internship students to laboratory animal-based research.
The session began with an introductory presentation about COMeT, followed by a briefing on the Animal Welfare Act 2015. An interactive Q&A session was held between the students and COMeT representatives, focusing on the legal and ethical aspects of using animals for research purposes.
Subsequently, the delegation was taken on a guided tour of both the barrier and conventional facilities, where they were able to observe the environment and operations up close.
The visit concluded with a group photo session, marking the end of the programme.
