5 December 2024 – The Universiti Putra Malaysia Microbial Culture Collection (UPM-MCC), under the Institute of Bioscience (IBS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), organised a STEM programme titled “Microbial World” at Sekolah Kebangsaan Batang Benar, Mantin, Negeri Sembilan. The programme was conducted by the dedicated team from UPM-MCC, with support from IBS staff who volunteered as facilitators. The event also received the enthusiastic participation of Prof. Dr. Zunita Zakaria, Director of IBS, and Prof. Dr. Ina Salwany Mad Yasin, Deputy Director of IBS and Coordinator of UPM-MCC, highlighting their commitment in succeeding this programme.
Aimed at preschool students aged 5 to 6 years, the programme engaged 25 participants in a variety of hands-on activities. These included an introduction to microorganisms, experiments to sample microorganisms from the environment, lessons on proper hand hygiene, and creative art sessions using modelling clay. To gauge their understanding, the students completed evaluation forms based on the day’s activities. The programme concluded with a souvenir presentation to the participants, followed by a group photography session to commemorate the event.
