8 April 2026 — A one-and-a-half-day Workshop on Introduction to Biosafety and Biosecurity in Animal Research was successfully conducted for four staff members of Prima Nexus Sdn. Bhd. The programme was jointly organised by the Institute of Bioscience and the Institutional Biosafety and Biosecurity Committee (IBBC) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of biosafety and biosecurity regulations particularly in laboratory animal research. It began with an introductory session on the Biosafety Act 2007, followed by a series of presentations based on modules developed by the Malaysia One Health University Network (MyOHUN), covering legal frameworks and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
Participants also engaged in an interactive question-and-answer session, where they sought clarification on regulatory implementation and procedures for the lawful transportation of biological materials.
On the second day, attendees were introduced to standard operating procedures by the Comparative Medicine and Technology Unit (COMeT), Institute of Bioscience. The sessions focused on handling low infectious substances, Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO), and Living Modified Organisms (LMO).
One of the participants, Dr. Farah, described the workshop as highly informative, praising the speakers for their expertise and engaging delivery.
The workshop concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony and a group photo session.
