23 April 2025 - The Workshop on Microbial Preservation Technique organised by the UPM Microbial Culture Collection (UPM-MCC) under the Institute of Bioscience (IBS), Universiti Putra Malaysia, was successfully conducted over two days and saw enthusiastic participation from local and international researchers. The workshop was officially launched by Prof. Dr. Ina Salwany Md Yasin, Deputy Director of IBS and Coordinator of UPM-MCC. In her opening remarks, she emphasized the importance of microbial preservation in supporting both academic research and industrial application. This hands-on workshop provided in-depth training on freeze-drying (lyophilisation) techniques and cryopreservation methods.
A total of 14 participants attended, including students, researchers, and technical staff from various government agencies such as the Kota Kinabalu Public Health Laboratory, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Malaya (UM), the National Food Safety Centre (NCFS), and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), as well as from private organisations including CRAUN Research Sdn. Bhd. and Thor Specialties Sdn Bhd. Participants took part in the workshop to enhance their technical knowledge in the management and conservation of microbial resources for research and industrial applications. The organisation of this workshop is hoped to further strengthen UPM-MCC’s role as an active reference center for microorganisms and foster scientific collaboration and knowledge sharing in the fields of microbiology, biotechnology, and biosciences.
