12 August 2024 – The training workshop of One Health Genomic Surveillance for Emerging Zoonotic Diseases: Strengthening the One Health Workforce's Surveillance System through Real-time Sequencing Technology organised by the Laboratory of Vaccine and Biomolecules (VacBio) was successfully held from 19 to 23 August 2024 at Institute of Bioscience (IBS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This workshop was funded by SEAOHUN 2024 One Health Research and Training (OHRT) awarded to Dr. Yu Choo Yee, Research Officer of VacBio.
This program was attended by 22 participants from various agencies who were screened from a total of more than 100 applications. The opening ceremony was officiated by the IBS Director, Prof. Dr. Zunita Zakaria and followed by a presentation session by Prof. Dr. Syafinaz Amin Nordin (UPM), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tengku Shahrul Anuar (Universiti Teknologi MARA, UiTM) and Dr. Ang Geik Yong (UiTM). The presentation session continued on the second day by Prof. Dr. Chan Kok Gan (Universiti Malaya) and Prof. Dr. Chee Hui Yee (UPM). The workshop program was rich in practical sessions designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to develop, implement, and conduct genomic surveillance programs for zoonotic diseases at One Health interfaces, encompassing human, animal, and environmental health. The workshop concluded with a closing ceremony led by Dr. Yu Choo Yee, followed by the presentation of certificates to the participants.
