5 March 2025 - A collaboration between Natural Medicines and Products Research Laboratory (NaturMeds), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and Iconix Venture Sdn. Bhd. aims to introduce a health innovation based on black turmeric (Curcuma caesia) through a product branded as ‘Naturmeric’. Developed from the research of Professor Dr. Intan Safinar Ismail, the product educates consumers on the authenticity of black turmeric, which is often confused with black ginger (Kaempferia parviflora). Its identity has been scientifically verified and is undergoing preclinical studies. Black turmeric has previously been associated with health benefits such as reducing inflammation and boosting immunity. To reduce the stigma that ‘natural is safe’, Naturmeric is positioned as a scientifically supported natural health solution, emphasizing aspects of purity, safety and effectiveness in community healthcare.
