29 August 2025 –UPM-MAKNA Cancer Research Laboratory (CANRES) successfully organized a ‘Bioreactor Refresher Talk for Microbial Culture’ at Tongkat Ali Seminar Room, Institute of Bioscience, UPM. This seminar commenced at 9.30 am and was delivered by Ms. Eileen Sim from Sartorius Stedim Biotech. The session was offered free of charge to all participants. The main objective of this seminar was to refresh participants’ knowledge of bioreactor fundamentals, focusing on types of bioreactors, their key components, and operating principles. A total of 22 participants, consisting of UPM students and staff from various faculties and institutes, attended this session. Representatives from BIO3 Scientific Sdn. Bhd., the official distributor of Sartorius Stedim bioreactors in Malaysia, also attended the event. Following the seminar, Ms. Eileen Sim and the Sartorius Stedim Biotech team visited the Probiotics and Cancer Therapeutics Laboratory (CANRES 2) to view its bioreactor facilities. During the visit, Laboratory Coordinator Prof. Dr. Foo Hooi Ling highlighted the history of bioreactor development at CANRES 2 and expressed interest in future collaborations, particularly in organizing hands-on workshops. This seminar not only enhanced understanding of bioreactor technology but also strengthened academic–industry engagement, paving the way for meaningful collaborations that will support research and training at UPM.
