13 October 2025 – The Interactive STEM Programme was held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Kelana, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, organized by the Laboratory Services Management Secretariat, Institute of Bioscience, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This programme was held in conjunction with the SK Seri Kelana Platinum Jubilee Celebration and National Sports Day at SK Seri Kelana.
The programme was led by Pn. Mazina binti Mohd Yusoff, Science Officer from the Natural Medicines and Products Research Laboratory (NaturMeds), Institute of Bioscience, and participated by committee members and volunteers consisting of IBS staff and students. The objective of this programme was to introduce basic science knowledge to primary school students. An interactive learning module was developed by integrating various areas of expertise from the Institute of Bioscience, including microscopy, microbiology, chemical forensics, and many more. The module was specially designed for young learners and presented through six themed exhibition stations.
Among the highlights were Station 1: Microscope Beyond Expectations, where students explored the structures of plants, animals, and microbes while observing hidden features on banknotes. Station 2: Importance of Handwashing emphasized hygiene practices, while Station 3: Humans vs. Rats showcased basic anatomical comparisons. Station 4: Fingerprint Analysis allowed students to discover their unique fingerprint patterns. Station 5: Mystery Powder introduced basic forensic tests, and Station 6: Colour Chromatography demonstrated how dyes are made up of various pigment mixtures.
More than 300 visitors, consisting of students and parents, visited and had the opportunity to participate in fun hands-on activities that increased their awareness of the importance of science in daily life. Students who completed all the activity stations also received various souvenirs such as hand soap, keychains, stationery, hand fans, and others as rewards.
