17 April – The Institute of Bioscience (IBS) successfully organized the Institute of Bioscience Strategic Planning Workshop 2026–2030: Sustaining the ‘True North’ Agenda, held at Cherengin Hills Convention Resort, Pahang. The workshop served as an important initiative to strengthen the institute’s strategic planning in ensuring the sustainability of excellence in research, innovation, and services, in line with the University’s aspirations.
The workshop aimed to discuss, evaluate, and formulate IBS’s strategic direction for the next five (5) years. The main focus was to ensure that all planned strategies are aligned with the University’s vision and mission, while also considering current needs and future challenges in the field of biosciences.
A total of 12 participants, comprising members of IBS Management, attended and actively engaged in the discussions. Throughout the workshop, participants shared insights, ideas, and recommendations that were realistic, competitive, and impactful. This interactive approach created opportunities for constructive idea exchange and the development of more comprehensive and inclusive strategies.
The session, chaired by the Director of the Institute of Bioscience, Prof. Dr. Zunita Zakaria, also emphasized the planning and implementation of new IBS flagship projects for the 2026–2030 period. At the same time, the workshop reviewed the implementation status of IBS flagship projects for 2022–2025. This assessment was crucial in identifying achievements, strengths, and areas for improvement that can be leveraged in shaping more robust future strategies.
In addition, the workshop highlighted key areas such as human capital empowerment, strengthening strategic collaborations, enhancing high-impact research capabilities, and intensifying the commercialization of research outputs. These elements are seen as key drivers in ensuring IBS remains relevant and competitive at both national and international levels.
Overall, the workshop successfully achieved its objectives by providing a conducive platform for strategic discussions and future planning. The outcomes and resolutions from the workshop will serve as a key guide in steering the Institute of Bioscience towards sustained excellence for the 2026 to 2030 period.
