24 February 2025 – The Institute of Bioscience, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), has strengthened its global collaboration by establishing a strategic partnership with Visayas State University Tolosa (VSU-Tolosa) in the Philippines. The exchange ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) took place at the VSU Guesthouse, marking a significant partnership between the two universities in research, innovation, and knowledge transfer, particularly in the fisheries sector.

The event was attended by VSU President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes; VSU Tolosa Chancellor Dr. Quenstein D. Lauzon; and UPM Institute of Bioscience Deputy Director, Professor Dr. Ina Salwany Md Yasin, along with the UPM delegation comprising Prof. Dr. Mohammad Noor Amal Azmai, ChM. Muhammad Farhan Nazarurdin, Dr. Norhariani Mohd Nor, Dr. Mohamad Aslah Mohamad, and Dr. Mohamad Azzam Sayuti.

The MoU highlights a shared commitment to strengthening research collaboration, academic exchange, and human resource development in fisheries and aquatic sciences. The visit provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions with the Faculty of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at VSU Tolosa to explore potential joint research projects and opportunities for student and faculty mobility.

This partnership is expected to make a significant impact on the global fisheries industry. The MoU also includes periodic reviews to ensure its long-term effectiveness. UPM and VSU remain committed to enhancing academic excellence and driving innovation in fisheries and aquaculture, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and the promotion of sustainable industry practices.
