16 July 2025 - UPM-MAKNA Cancer Research Laboratory (CANRES), Institute of Bioscience, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with Vazyme Biotech Co. Ltd, successfully hosted a 2-day workshop on “Verification of Gene Expression in Cancer Cells Using qPCR” from 14–15 July 2025.

This workshop aimed to strengthen participants’ technical competencies and broaden their understanding of quantitative PCR (qPCR) applications in cancer research. A total of eight participants, including postgraduate students and researchers from UPM, Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), and a private medical company.

The programme comprised a series of lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions, covering the complete workflow of gene expression analysis, including RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, qPCR experimental setup, and data interpretation. Lectures were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chia Suet Lin, Head of the CANRES Laboratory, and Dr. Teoh Chui Peng, a representative from Vazyme Biotech Co. Ltd. Practical sessions were facilitated by experienced molecular biology practitioners, who emphasized best laboratory practices and highlighted the critical role of qPCR in validating gene expression in cancer studies.

Participants appreciated the workshop for its structured content, interactive learning environment, and valuable hands-on experience. The event successfully contributed to capacity building in molecular diagnostics and cancer research.
