Community Network & Public Service Program on "Poultry Diseases: Control, Prevention, and Diagnosis - Series 2"

12 August 2024 – The second series of the Community Network & Public Service Program was held at the Institute of Poultry Technology (ITU) in Masjid Tanah, Melaka, on August 7th and 8th, 2024. Organized by the Laboratory of Vaccine and Biomolecules (VacBio) in collaboration with ITU, the program was themed "Poultry Diseases: Control, Prevention, and Diagnosis." The program aimed to raise awareness and provide education to chicken farmers and farm operators on methods for identifying and preventing poultry diseases, as well as to promote the diagnostic and screening services offered by the VacBio laboratory.

The program attracted 26 participants, including 4 representatives from the Department of Veterinary Services and 22 chicken farmers from various districts in Melaka and Terengganu. Experts from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and ITU presented a variety of engaging topics, sharing their knowledge with the participants. Sixteen committee members were appointed to ensure the success of the two-day program. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Director of the Institute of Bioscience, Prof. Dr. Zunita Zakaria, followed by a session with poultry experts from UPM, including Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Hair Bejo, Dr. Norfitriah Mohamed Sohaimi, and Prof. Dr. Zunita Zakaria on the first day. On the second day, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lokman Hakim Idris, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurulfiza Mat Isa, and Dr. Abdul Wafi Shaari (ITU) shared their expertise with the participants.

As part of the program, participants visited Rezeki Toyyiba Enterprise, a village poultry breeding and hatchery center, for a knowledge-sharing session on maintaining efficient and clean chicken farm operations free from pests, including flies. The program also included practical sessions on poultry handling, such as administering vaccinations to chicks. The event concluded with a closing speech by the Program Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurulfiza Mat Isa, followed by the presentation of certificates and souvenirs to the participants.
