25 July 2026 — The UPM MAKNA Cancer Research Laboratory organized a community outreach program Canres Outreach 2026 at Kuala Dungun, Terengganu, attracting 320 participants, including locals and students from seven regional schools. Supported by the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM), Ibnu Sina Medical Charity Organization of Malaysia (PAPISMA), and the Dungun District Health Office, District Education Office, and District Land Office. This initiative promoted importance of early cancer detection, promote healthy lifestyle practices, and and introduce STEM applications to foster school students' interest in exploring science and technology.
The day was kicked off with an energizing aerobic session, followed by welcoming remarks from Canres Outreach 2026 program director, Dr. Aida Azrina Azmi, and Head of UPM-MAKNA Cancer Research Laboratory, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chia Suet Lin. The initiative was coordinated together with YB Dr. Tengku Muhammad Fakhruddin Bin Tengku MD Fauzi, Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri Sura, and officiated by YB Mohd Fadhli Rahmi bin Zulkifli, Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri Rantau Abang.
Following the opening ceremony, attendees participated in insightful health talks focusing on cervical and colorectal cancers. The program also highlighted comprehensive medical and cancer screenings, alongside hands-on STEM procedures. Participants shared overwhelmingly positive feedback, describing the experience as engaging, educational, and fun, with many expressing hopes for similar programs to be conducted again in the future.
