25 May 2026 – To bridge classroom theory and real-world cancer breakthroughs, students from the Department of Biomedical Science, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Kuantan, recently visited UPM-MAKNA Cancer Research Laboratory (CANRES) at the Institute of Bioscience (IBS), Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Led by the Course Coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norafiza Zainuddin, the educational visit immersed five undergraduate students from the Molecular Cancer Research Course (AHBS 3274) into a research environment. The delegation was warmly welcomed by the Head of Laboratory, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chia Suet Lin, and the CANRES staff.
The engagement featured an insightful presentation on IBS, laboratory operations, specialized services, and research facilities, alongside an overview of Dr. Chia’s current research. Following the briefing, students received an exclusive guided tour of the CANRES facilities.
This fruitful visit opened new doors for future research and educational collaborations. The participating students shared that interacting directly with a frontline cancer researcher profoundly enriched their academic perspectives, fueling their aspirations to pursue impactful careers in cancer research and personalized medicine.
