15 May 2024 - Aquatic Animal Health and Therapeutics Laboratory (AquaHealth), Institute of Bioscience, Universiti Putra Malaysia had participated the International Conference of Marine Science and Aquaculture (ICOMSA2024) at Sutera Harbour Resort, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah from 15 - 16 May 2024. The conference's theme Ocean Futures: Advancing Sustainable Marine Science & Aquaculture have emphasized the importance of sustainable practices in the future of our oceans in a changing world such as climate change, pollution, overfishing and habitat degradation. The conference discussed interconnected aspects of technology, biodiversity, seafood security, policy, and education, which all aimed to achieve a more sustainable and resilient ocean ecosystem. The participation in the international conferences encouraged fruitful discussion, knowledge exchange, and networking opportunities among the scientists, industry players, policymakers, local communities and related stakeholders.
The conference comprised one keynote speaker, three plenary speakers, 77 oral presenters and 42 poster presenters, which was structured to include research on innovative solutions to the current challenges. AquaHealth supported this conference by participation of ten oral and poster presentations in total. AquaHealth research entitled “Assessment of Virulence Associated Genes of Vibrio spp. Isolated from Cultured Shrimp in Selangor, Malaysia”, corresponded by Miss Noraznita Sharifuddin had received the second-best student poster award. Participation in ICOMSA2024 has fostered knowledge exchange, inspired new ideas, and strengthened partnerships to enhance marine ecosystems and livelihoods globally.
