Background

The UPM - MAKNA Cancer Research Laboratory (CANRES) was establish in 2005 as a joint collaboration between the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA) in pursuit of enhancing cancer treatment. The main objective of CANRES is to coordinate, integrate and centralize all cancer research in UPM towards developing, expanding and commercializing the research outcomes in one focus and strategic management.

Research at CANRES focuses on the development of anticancer agents by using biodiversity that is availabale in Malaysia, the application of immunotherapeutics and stem cells in cancer therapy. CANRES also focuses on research applying new molecular technologies in the identification of genetics alterations of cancer in Malaysia.

Our researchers come from various fields includig genetics, biochemistry, histology, pathology and cell biology. Since its establishment, CANRES researchers have won numerous awards and some findings have been succesfully patented. Some of these products are currently in pre - clinical testing as has been shown to be effective in killing cancer cells.

The involvement of CANCER in cancer research directly contributes to the effort in providing information, prevention and current treatments in the fight against cancer in Malaysia. In order to achieve this, CANRES researchers are ready to collaborate with both the public and private sectors in the hopes to maximize the research outcomes for the common good.
