SERDANG, November (UPM) – Institute of Bioscience (IBS), has conducted a special programme for children which are School camp @ Bioscience (Herbs World) on 23rd March and 28th November 2019. Due to the high request, the specific event has been conducted twice per year with the cooperation from Department of Education of Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya (JPWPP) and participation from multiple states the event was certified on national level. The school camp was purposely conducted on holidays to fill the free time of the students and also to attract their attention to plants science specifically herbs plants which has medical values. Students that were involved in the event ages around 10 to 12 years old. The main purpose of the school camp is to help increase the personality and understandings of the students towards Science Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEM) and filling their free time with beneficial activities. Many attractive activities were held on that day, such as preparation of herb soaps, Garden Tour, Explore Race and Planting herbs plants. Students were exposed practically to the process of soap making such as smelting and
solidifying, decorating plant pots according to their creativity, planting herbs plant, identifying plants characteristics and also learnt about plant life cycle such as photosynthesis and respiration. For more excitement, students were separated into two groups to encourage healthy competitive attitude among them while exploring plants in the Conservatory Park. Questions and answering session also were organized based on year 4, 5 and 6 science text books and evaluated by assigned UPSR science teachers.
